Alina Ko, an 8 year breast cancer survivor, created artwork and curated exhibitions about breast cancer journeys— “The Journey to New Beginnings: An Exhibition of Breast Cancer Awareness Art” in 2019, “Thrivers: A Virtual Exhibit of Breast Cancer Art,” in 2020-2021 “Interwoven: An Exhibit of Breast Cancer Art” “Art- in -Lockdown Exhibition: Featuring the Kindred Collection of Interwoven Breast Cancer and Sheltered -In-Place Pandemic Art” and “Thrive! Exhibiting Breast Cancer Journeys.”

Beginning in October 2021, she has been producing short documentaries about breast cancer awareness and mental health recovery propagating the message that Art is a Healer. The documentaries “Arts in Recovery: Healing Conversations” was produced in 2022 and “The Cancer Artists: Exhibiting Breast Cancer Art” is in postproduction.

A collaboration with Robert Anthony Montesino, “Ministry Art: The Art of the Spiritually Woke” featured spiritual or religious themed artwork and performances from several artists, was on display in MAG Fashion Lounge Hall in September, 2019. Inspired by the art of Sandra Perini RIP, a Christian sculptor who died of metastatic breast cancer in February 2019, “Ministry Art” spotlighted her vision, which is one of spiritual journeying, wakefulness, steadfastness, and generosity of spirit.

Alina Ko curated an art show about romantic love “Love’s Hangover” which was appropriately held in a courtyard bar, The New York Patio Bar and “Thrivers: A Virtual Breast Cancer Exhibit’ published by the National League of Pen Women- Coral Gables Branch. Alina co-coordinated a nature-themed art installation “Painted Tin” with muralist Sonia Sanchez Nieto at a patio bar/entertainment venue The Shipyard Garden in Hollywood, FL. The first Art Show at Shipyard in September 2022 is a series of shows that feature art, music and poetry.

She curated “Sisters” at NMB Discovery Library, an exhibit that emphasized the common bond between women. Mayor Danielle Levine Cava was presented with an award acknowledging her leadership and being an inspiration to the next generation of women.

Art with a Purpose is an endeavor that is especially needed during the challenging time we are living in; one that expresses hope while also exploring problems we face.

Collaborating with David Chaskes, Willie Rodriguez, and Teo Freytes, Alina Ko raises breast cancer awareness and education in “The Cancer Artists: Exhibiting Breast Cancer Art.”

“Healing Conversations” is a grant funded documentary produced for Sandra McQueen Baker, Executive Director of Alliance for Change and Empowerment, a mental, behavioral and substance use recovery nonprofit agency based in Miami Gardens, FL.

Alina’s production company, Art Garden Productions LLC, is also in development with short films – “Unreconstructed” and “Friend of Life.”

Fundraising for ArtFullAngels, Badges of Courage, Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, and Comforting Pink Sisters, Alina realizes her mission, which is raising breast cancer awareness and education and helping raise funds for non-profit organizations.

Collaborating with Co-Founder of Purple Octopus Art, LLC. International Fine Artist Rajul Shah, Publisher of a virtual space that observes the creative phenomena in multiple mediums, MSA- xperimental Teo Freytes, artist and author of children’s books Gustavo Garcia to create a platform that addresses physical and environmental ailments. “Cancer Feminine: Art, Inspiration, Truth” is an online exhibition and book that features art, expressive writing from the breast, cervical, ovarian cancer and gynecological cancer communities.

Alina incorporates art-making, yoga, meditation, mindfulnesses, journaling and reading in daily practice. Alina is participating in a yearlong mixed media workshop instructed by an Ingenious mixed media artist. Employed by NAMI Broward and Memorial Healthcare Systems Rebel’s Drop-In Center, Alina is in the process of being certified as a Peer Specialist by the Florida Certification Board. Alina helps low-income people in need of therapeutic healing arts at drop-in centers.
